Bridge Beyond is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Our organization partners with college communities, specifically student volunteers, to help advocate, assist, and advance the efforts towards helping people who experience homelessness.

Purpose

Bridge Beyond is committed to assisting those who experience homelessness and housing instability. Bridge Beyond recognizes that there are a number of other organizations that have been working extensively and have spent years establishing relationships with members of the community. Rather than producing parallel efforts with these pre-existing organizations, we are working towards utilizing the college student community to help fill in the gaps in efforts towards helping people who are experiencing homelessness. 

About Us

The idea for Bridge Beyond was curated by Sharon Li in 2020. Her university’s city of Pittsburgh offered a large range of resources to those experiencing homelessness. Despite this, she recognized the need for easier accessibility to these resources, especially for her community’s most vulnerable groups. Within the chaos of the COVID-19 global pandemic, Li recruited a small group of young professionals to help make her dream a reality. Bridge Beyond has since evolved into a nonprofit organization that connects people with individual, need-based, resources that exist within their own community.

Online Resources

We are currently working on compiling the vast amount of federal and local Pittsburgh resources currently available to individuals experiencing homelessness, which can be viewed on our website’s Resources page. This page is continuously updated with new information. The Bridge Beyond Directory (currently in development) will be replacing this section upon completion.

Bridge Beyond is a 100% volunteer-run, nonprofit organization. Our goal is to connect people who are experiencing homelessness and housing instability to resources within their own community. There are many obstacles that can get between someone and life-changing resources.

An individual who does not have access to the internet may not easily find out when hot meals are served, where clothing drives are, or how to obtain affordable healthcare.

Future Directions

  • Expanding and Optimizing the Resource Bags

    The Bridge Beyond Outreach team recently created and passed out Resource Bags to people experiencing homelessness within Pittsburgh. As we receive feedback from our community, we are improving on the next batch of Resource Bags.

  • Advocate for Policies that Support Individuals Experiencing Homelessness and Housing Instability

    Bridge Beyond recognizes that systematic progress is essential to addressing homelessness that is why we are continuously educating ourselves and publicly advocating for policies that support individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability.

  • Volunteer and Partner With More Local Organizations

    One of Bridge Beyond’s foundational purposes is to connect pre-existing organizations with the purpose of optimizing resource distributions within the community. We strive to build strong relationships with other organizations through volunteering and complementary partnerships.
